Avant Academy of Music joins Scotiabank Vision Achievers

IMG_0991.JPG

Kingston, Jamaica - Avant Academy of Music has been accepted in the Scotiabank Vision Achievers,  a 17-week business coaching programme led by Action Coach Marcia Woon Choy.

This year's program will include sales, systemising business processes, marketing, and understanding business financials, which will help with the scaling up of businesses.

Avant Academy of Music was chosen out of forty (40) applicants, after pitching their company’s ideas to a group of Scotia representatives.

Seretse Small, owner and founder of Avant Academy shared some insightful information about his experience with Marcia Woon Choy and how instrumental this experience was.

“We had just started getting everything set up in the first year, 2013 when I saw an ad somewhere about a workshop being put on by the Branson Centre, It was a workshop on “90 day Planning”. I thought it would be good to attend, so I signed up for the workshop. It was being held at the Spanish Court Hotel if I am not mistaken and it was being led by Action Coach, Marcia Woon Choy. I soon discovered that this was a Scotia Vision Achievers program session that had been opened up to the public. In that session, Coach Marcia went through a lot of the fundamental ideas of running a business in her inimitable style and unstoppable energy. I mopped it all up and was eager to apply it as quickly as possible.” Mr Small shared.

Avant Academy is now a Social Enterprise and has made numerous changes to its business model and also changed its location. The school was looking to go online in 2019, however, when Covid19 hit last year it was inevitable that online schooling was the way to go.

According to Mr Small, being a part of the 2021 Scotiabank Vision Achievers program is a great opportunity.

“In the sessions, though I feel that I have accomplished a lot of the systems and concepts already, I am grateful to be back with my coach. Her voice and energy are a tonic to the soul. I am looking forward to making her proud. I am also looking forward to sharing some of the gifts we have gained on our journey especially on the Social Enterprise side. It just feels right to tell you the truth, and I am glad.” He shared.

Avant Academy of Music is now located at 69 Westminster Road, Kingston 10 and their contact information is: Phone: (876)946-0828/ 631-4216; WhatsApp:(876)829-3702, www.avantacademyofmusic.com

LCM Chief Examiner Optimistic about the future of music education and employment in Jamaica

This discussion is between me, Seretse Small, the founder and managing director of the Avant Academy of Music and Philip Aldred the Chief Examiner of the London College of Music exams. This interview was preceded by a meeting discussing the logistics of improving the execution of the exams and how to build a stronger culture at the school. There is anticipation as preparations are made for the exams on the following day. There is also a sense of disappointment as the number of exam candidates was not as many as were expected. This is the first major conversation between the two of us.
